The Gospel of John 59 Peter Denies His Lord 15 Meanwhile Simon Peter was following Jesus as was the other disciple. Now that disciple was an acquaintance of the high priest so he went into the high priests courtyard with Jesus. 16 But Peter was standing outside by the door. So the other disciple who was an acquaintance of the high priest went out and spoke to the girl who kept the door and brought Peter in. 17 Then the servantgirl who kept the door said to Peter You arent one of this mans disciples too are you I am not he said. 18 Now the servants and the temple police had made a charcoal fire because it was cold and they were standing there warming themselves. Peter also was standing with them and warming himself. Jesus Answers the High Priest 19 Then the high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and about His teaching. 20 Jesus answered him I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in syna- gogues and in the temple courts where the Jews always congregate and I have spoken nothing in secret. 21 Why do you question Me Question those who heard what I told them. Look they know what I said 22 And when He had said these things one of the temple police standing by slapped Jesus face saying 23 Is that any way to answer the high priest If I have spoken wrongly Jesus answered him give evidence about the wrong but if rightly why do you hit Me 24 Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. Peter Denies His Lord Twice More 25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him You arent one of His disciples too are you Then he denied it and said I am not 26 One of the high priests servants a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off said Didnt I see you with Him in the garden 27 Then Peter denied it again and at once a rooster crowed.
