42 Chapter 12 49 But one of them Caiaphas who was high priest that year said to them You know nothing at all 50 Nor are you considering that it is to our advantage that one man should die for the people and not that the whole nation should perish. 51 Now he did not say this of his own accord but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation 52 and not only for the nation but also in order to unite the scattered children of God. 53 So from that day on they plotted to kill Him. 54 Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Judeans but went from there to the region near the desert to a town called Ephraim. And He spent time there with His disciples. 55 Now the Jewish Passover was near and before the Passover many went up to Jerusalem from the country to purify themselves. 56 Then they were looking for Jesus and asking one another as they stood in the temple courts What do you thinkthat He wont come to the festival at all 57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given an order that if anyone knew where He was he should report it so they could arrest Him. The Anointing at Bethany 1Then Jesus six days before the Passover came to Bethany. Lazarus who had diedthe one He had raised from the deadwas there. 2 So they gave a dinner for Him there and Martha waited on them. Now Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. 3 Then Mary took a pound of pure and expensive oil of nard anointed Jesus feet and wiped His feet with her hair. So the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. 4 Then one of His disciples Judas Iscariot Simons son who was about to betray Him said 5 Why wasnt this fragrant oil sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor 6 However he didnt say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief was in charge of the moneybox and used to help himself to what was put into it. 7 Then Jesus said 12
